Got off to a false start
I picked up a gumnut
And tried to blow a tune
A tune I knew so well
A small sound rang
But I heard it all the same
The leaves on the branch above
Listening for the swell
In another time, under the moon
Was every trace of us festooned
With echoes silver
We never needed the words for
Shake off the dust, the air is fine
It’s whistling through the grass tonight
Till morning light can let it all unravel
You know I forgot to joke
My heart was a slowpoke
But you know I’m waiting here
And I think these clouds can clear
The soft scent of rain
Is at my door again
And the wattles bloom
For the first time in a year
In this time, under the moon
Is every trace of us festooned
With echoes silver we never needed the words for?
Shake off the dust, the air is fine
We’ll send it soaring, gleaming bright
Open our arms
And let it all unravel
And when the tune appeared
It drifted into the atmosphere
It sent us bright, alive
Didn’t have to try
And when the Autumn turned
The hum of a question burned
No need to hide away
My little bird
Ooh
In this time, under the moon
Is every trace of us festooned
With echoes silver we never needed the words for?
Shake off the dust, the air is fine
We’ll send it soaring, gleaming bright
Open our arms
And let it all unravel
Ooh
