If a star fell on the ground
You’d pick it up and
Give it to someone you love
I hear it all by heart
By the sound of your speaking
The look in your eye
Down in the subway
The clocks mark the time
To be alone with the night
A tune from a busker
On the breath of this place
I’ll soon leave behind
If a star fell on the ground
You’d pick it up and
Give it to someone you love
I felt it in the air
In union square
Where I sat to read alone
You took a step near me
And asked what I sing
Of what do I write?
We spoke then of writers
Of the lower east side
Till you went to catch your flight
I hear it all by heart
By the sound of your speaking
The look in your eye
We’re all listening out for love
And traces of friendship
To take into our stride
And you gave me a little time
To slow down, come in with the tide
A tune from a busker
Can always be found
Singing warm and wide
