Come join us for a house concert in Eltham, featuring exquisite sounds from three Melbourne-based songwriters and starting off with a shared potluck dinner.
Lucy Wise has delighted audiences across Australia and internationally with her masterful storytelling, intricate ukulele and guitar playing and soulful voice. She draws inspiration from her background in Appalachian and Celtic folk music, as well as legendary songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. Her musical clarity and down-to-earth performance style captures the hearts of audiences wherever she goes. Since returning from her touring in the US and UK last winter, Lucy has been writing songs for her third album.
“Wise is a natural storyteller, infusing songs with a sense of place so strong you can almost feel the dusty earth crunch beneath your feet as she sings.” (The Brag, Sydney).
In the vein of Feist and Laura Marling, Rowena Wise lays pop-infused melodies, and rich, quirky conversational lyrics onto a sparse folk canvas. With a voice that can “caress you in one breath and carve you apart in the next” (Brag Magazine) she has toured nationally and formed a striking new pop folk trio outfit in the past year, as well as finishing her recently released debut solo album.
“A voice like K. D. Lang’s…Rowena’s mixed bag of original songs was a haven for poignant lyrics and pure, charming melodies.” – AAA Backstage, Brisbane
Combining 60s and 70s folk singer-songwriter influences with bluegrass tinged arrangements, John Flanagan has “proven himself a songwriting force to keep an eye on” (Timber and Steel). His latest record ‘There’s Another Way To Where You’re Going’ was nominated for best Folk/Roots Album in The Age Music Victoria Awards and has been on high rotation on Australian radio.
“The music is just gorgeous, I absolutely love it” Felicity Urquhart, Saturday Night Country ABC Radio
Lucy, Rowena and John will be performing some solo songs as well as a set of songs together.
